The holidays are a great time to get together with friends and family and carry out old traditions while also making new ones. One of the most striking things about a holiday are the spices and sweets that everyone experiences during the holiday season.

As people are on the lookout for new holiday ideas to try out, one interesting thing to explore and enjoy this holiday season is your favorite fermented beverage. Since there are many different types of fermented beverages available readily in the market, especially during holiday season, we can say without a doubt that your days will make you cheer “ho, ho, hurray!”

Types of Holiday Fermented Beverages

One can’t deny how each person has a different favorite flavor profile. This means that tastes that might appeal to one person do not need to appeal to another, even if they are related. With these differences in preferences, the holiday gives you ample time to figure out your favorite holiday themed fermented beverage.

Though fermented beverages such as traditional eggnog are already dominant in the holiday season, here are some types of unique holiday fermented beverages that you can try out with your friends and family.

  • Bubbly Kefir Soda: this is one of the healthier holiday options to try out due to its lower sugar content. This probiotic laden beverage uniquely combines the bubbliness similar to a soft drink with beneficial bacteria and yeast to water kefir to make a delicious holiday treat.
  • Kvass: this fermented drink originates from Eastern Europe, and is made using rye bread. The drink is made by adding natural yeast and sugar (or even honey) to fermented rye bread, which it then mixed with zakvasa. It is similar to beer unless berries are added to it, helping it add a little kick to your holiday cheer.
  • Basi: Fermented sugarcane is a drink hailing from the Philippines that is stored in earthenware, after the addition of flavors and fruits, for many years at a time. Its deep, earthy taste makes it a really interesting drink to couple with your holiday meals.
  • Chinese dark tea: the fermented form of this drink is a really special concoction, known to have a surprisingly light and subtle taste. This is a perfect beverage to have on Christmas morning to get your holiday cheer kick started.
  • Toddy: this particular palm sap drink comes from the African and South Asian regions. This unique fermented beverage is a popular one that is often served alongside Indian cuisines. If you want to try a general crowd pleaser, Toddy is a good choice to make to add a little spark of festivities to your holiday season. It has a distinctly strong flavor and aroma that make it all the more harder to forget.
  • Soju: this Korean fermented beverage has a unique and unforgettable taste that is perfect for trying out with your family and friends. It is primarily made from sweet potatoes along with tapioca, coming with a variety of different flavors like apple, peach, and raspberry to suit the palates of everyone.

Conclusion

The holiday season is a great time to try out new things and rediscover the love for old ones. For many people holidays stand for good food and perhaps more importantly, delicious holiday themed drinks. There are unique types of fermented holiday beverages that can be tasted and evaluated to find new preferences and make new memories.
